5 Things To Do For Your Home Before The Winter

Preparing for the Winter:

1. Clean You Gutters:

This ahead of the leaves this fall, once all the leaves have fallen, it's time to clean out your gutters. This is something that you could do on your own if you have a secure ladder, or you can hire someone to do it for you and get rid of all the build up and any blockages.

2. Fireplace / Wood Stove:

Cleaning out your fireplace or wood stove is always a must if you rely on the wood to stay warm, or just love the feel of a real fire. Make sure to clean out all the ashes and stock up on new wood. It's always best to have the chimney cleaned once a year as well.

3. WIndows:

Make sure all your windows are secured with no holes, if so caulk them up to prevent cold air from coming in. If need be, upgrade to heavier curtains or seal up windows with temporary products that can help increase energy efficiency.

4. Outdoors:

Do a check of all your patio furniture and anything that you might want to put away before the decrease in the temperature, either cover it or store it away, don't want your hose getting frozen solid!

5. Winter Essentials:

If you live in an area where there is constant snow and ice, prepare by getting all the essentials before the initial flake comes down. Whether it may be either dusting them out of the good ol' attic or purchasing new, you want to make sure you are ready with your snow removal gear, shovels and salt.

Prepping ahead of time might be able to make the winter months a little more bearable, maybe even enjoyable!
