Lavaca Historic District
What exactly is the Lavaca Historic District and how is it different from any other neighborhood?
Let me share some of it's history with you and what is going on today!
Homes in the Lavaca area were primarily build by working class families dating back to 1800s. Back in 1800s most of the residents living in the Lavaca neighborhood worked as craftsmen or were owners of small businesses in the area. So, you could say they were a closed knitted neighborhood.
Things slowly started to change and develop once the arrival of the railroad in the late 1870s. The railroad helped bring mass-produced building materials. Some of these materials included milled lumber for homes. This changed the structures of homes instead of being made with stoned they switched over to wood-framed.
Some popular architectural designs in Lavaca houses:
Queen Anne Style, modest one story and have an L-shaped plan.
Classic Revival, feature full height porches with classical columns and flanking windows.
Some of these designs have been renovated and update to a more modern design but have kept the integrity of the original design.
Not only are the houses in this area beautiful but the Lavaca neighbor stays connected and have plenty of activities going on inside the neighborhood.
A weekly Happy Hour get-together is hosted by the neighborhood. What better way to meet your new neighbors that with a cocktail. As well block parties, potluck dinners and art shows are other opportunities to catch up with old neighborhood friends.
The Lavaca historic district is filled with history that the residents keep adding today. Do not miss the change of being part of this historic neighborhood.
