With the cold weather upon us, most of us homeowners tend to not keep up with our homes and find ourselves using up more energy/electricity than needed . You may ask yourself,  "How do I prepare my home for the winter season without spending so much money on it?" Well it's good thing these are some super easy and affordable DIY's that can make a great impact on your home!

Cold air can peek in through your doors and windows even though they might be shut all the way. One thing you can do to prevent this from happening is to place some weather stripping. All you have to do is stick the weather strip underneath or around your doors/windows and it'll easily keep the cold air from coming in. You can purchase this at your local home improvement store for a low price. Image result for weather stripping

If you have a wood burning fire place, then it is very important that you get  your chimney swept. For only at a cost of about $100, you can find yourself making your home safe by preventing fires.  An unclean chimney is a major cause of house fires so make sure you get this done yearly for a comfortable experience.

You can also prepare the exterior of your home by adding hard faucet covers to the water spigots. By using a durable plastic cover, your faucets will be prevented from freezing up. Another thing that should be protected from the cold temperatures are your outdoor pipes. An easy way to do that is to cover up your pipes with some pipe insulation. Not only will this help with heat loss, heat gain, or maximizing energy, but it will also protect your pipes agains mold.
