Image titleLet’s face it, we could all use some breaks when it comes to taxes. Although we all understand that paying taxes is our responsibility as an American citizen, it never feels good when you have to sign a check over to Uncle Sam. Whether it goes to roads, schools, military, etc., it still comes out of your pocket. Luckily there are a few ways you can reduce the amount you’ll have to pay income tax season in April, and they can be applied in the comfort of your own home! Image title

Water Heaters

One of the best methods of earning rebates for yourself is by use of an efficient water heater in your home. Most people don’t really think about how much energy a water heater can consume, but just picture yourself heating up to 100 gallons of water over your stove – that’s a lot of propane, my friend. So, when you’re looking to update the water-heating methods in your house, be sure to look for heaters that have certain qualities to them. And remember, you can check out many of these products easily online.

Labeled “high-efficiency”

First, any heater that advertises itself as ‘high-efficiency’ will be a quick and easy way to swap out your current appliance. Because they resemble older models so closely, it may take little effort for a company to come out and install it for you. You can earn up to fifty dollars in rebates, and your bill may not be so high next month! It is a great reward for becoming generally more energy efficient!

Tankless

Second, tankless water heaters are something that really simplifies your energy usage. Usually stored outdoors, it will also free up storage space in your basement or crawl-space, meaning you essentially save on energy bills and storage! Perhaps the best aspect of the tankless water heater is the fact that it does not store or heat water unless it is required, which means to save big on bills. The efficient nature of the tank-less heater also means that you will never run out of hot water again, as it does not require you to wait until a large quantity is stored and heated at the same time. A constant supply of hot water is just about as good as it gets! This can also get you up to fifty dollars in rebates, but the cost you’ll save on water bills will be the best part.

Solar Powered

Last (but perhaps a bit early for practical use), are solar-powered heaters. This means that if you have solar panels installed on your roof, they can also heat your water with any excess energy that does not get used. Essentially, they are designed to work in tandem with another water heater in your home, but can greatly reduce the cost of energy by using free solar-power to help out with the workload. Now, these aren’t necessarily very cheap to install and have a long way to go in that regard. However, solar-energy is certainly the way of the future, and you can get a nice jump on the trend by installing them now!

Tax incentives like these are a great idea for aiding in the growing energy crisis. Your government rewards you for helping them, and your fellow neighbors out a little bit, but you’re simultaneously helping yourself out tremendously. There will indeed come a day when high-efficiency appliances are required in your home, so why not get a head start on the growing trend, as well as save yourself some financial strain, and earn a bit of money back in the process! There’s really nothing to lose, only money to gain.
